Gainesville Canine Academy
is owned and operated by Michelle Dunlap. Michelle began her dog
training career in 1999 with her Norwegian elkhound, Shaker. Michelle
and Shaker were a great agility team and enjoyed competing in agility.
Michelle adopted a pit bull named Chance and began working with rescued
dogs. Chance was a former bait dog rescued from dog fighters and
presented special training issues. Michelle worked with several rescue
groups as a foster parent and volunteer training, and often assisted
with the most difficult dogs in the rescue group. Thus began
Michelle's special interest in both rescued dogs and pit bulls.
Michelle's
work with rescued dogs guided her approach to dog training. Her focus
on the relationship between dogs and their families led Michelle to
seek positive training methods that strengthened the bond between dogs
and their families. Her approach to dogs is based on an understanding
of the motivation behind a dog's behavior and working with each family
member to teach their dog how to behave within the expectations of
their family.
